New Ontario Park Nears Completion
Construction is under way at Mark’s Bay Cottages & Campground on a 36-acre site west of Sault Ste-Marie, Ontario. The campground is expected to be up and running by mid-August, according to the Sault Star.
The site plan eventually calls for a lodge with an indoor swimming pool, cottages and as many as 70 full-service camping spots.
Access to Lake Superior will be via abutting property controlled by the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority.
Construction is under way on five cottages, and a pump house is up as of this week.
“It’s all landscaped now, the roads are in, (grass) seed is down and there are hundreds of people driving through that are curious,” said John Evans, a partner in the project. “It’s a beautiful area. I was out there on the weekend and I walked down to the water.”
Evans said plans are being made for an information session during the first weekend of August, with live entertainment. Proceeds from the event will go to Rebound North, a youth intervention program operated by Algoma Family Services and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.
Evans said plans are to cater to mainly local campers, rather than out-of-town tourists.
“With the rising price of gas and everything else, there are a lot of people who want to park the trailer up there and they can run out there just for the weekend,” he said.
