ARVC/KOA to Hold Joint Conventions
The National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC) is teaming up with Kampgrounds of America (KOA) Inc. to present the largest outdoor hospitality expo on record in November at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency Phoenix Hotel. And, for the first time in years, ARVC’s annual InSites Convention will not be held simultaneously with the National RV Show in Louisville.
By moving its annual InSites convention up by three weeks, ARVC will meet Nov. 6-9 after KOA’s gets together with its franchise holders Nov. 1-5. Then the first-ever joint trade show and exposition with more than than 200 vendors, will open with an evening reception Nov. 6.
“It has long been a dream of many in the industry to create an annual event that would showcase the entire industry under one roof to display the vast wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise that our diverse industry offers,” ARVC President Linda Profaizer wrote for the July issue of Woodall’s Campground Management. “Though we have a ways to go, this is the year we begin to realize that dream.”
Expo hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6; 10:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7; and 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 8.
In addition to the xxposition, there will be a wide variety of educational seminars designed to help keep campground owners and operators abreast of what is new in their industry and filled with tips on how to run their your business more effectively.
T. Scott Gross, author of “Positively Outrageous Service, Borrowed Dreams” and other customer service books, will be the keynote speaker at the Nov. 6 luncheon. “When Customers Talk” is the focus of his presentation.
Also during the convention:
* ARVC will hold elections for two board of director positions. One of the two available seats this election cycle is in Voting Area 1 with David Berg of Red Apple Campground in Kennebunkport, Maine, and the other is a limited seat in Voting Area 5 (that can only be held by a current board member running for a second term via a yes-no vote per new bylaw change regarding board structure) currently held by Carolyn Strong, CPO, of Sundermeier RV Park & Conference Center in St. Charles, Mo. ARVC members that are unable to vote in person may request an absentee ballot by logging on to www.arvc.org.
* New this convention is the Green Zone, a special section of the expo hall for eco-friendly products, services and technologies such as energy efficiency, water conservation and natural landscaping.
* A half-day seminar on how to host a Halloween event will be held the afternoon of Nov. 9.
