“Kampertainment” Livens Up KOAs
Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) campgrounds are bringing live entertainment to campers throughout the year with a new program called “Kampertainment.”
According to a news release from the Billings, Mont.-based KOA, Kampertainment brings family-friendly music to KOA campers during bonfires, by the pool or anytime throughout the day. The entertainers, also known as KOA-Approved Performers, go through a screening process to become part of this program.
“We knew there were performers out there who camped while traveling,” C.J. Armstrong, Kampertainment manager, said in the release. “This program not only opens the door to a new audience for KOA-Approved Performers, but brings great entertainment to KOA campgrounds.”
In exchange for an approximate 75-minute performance, a KOA-Approved Performer receives a free RV or tent site and is allowed to sell merchandise, such as CDs, to KOA campers.
“This program is excellent and I get access to an outlet that artists normally would not have easy access,” said Joe Taylor, a KOA-Approved Performer from New York. “Not only are the accommodations great, I have the opportunity to try new songs and promote my music in a new way.”
Kampertainment began during the summer of 2006 and fully launched in 2007. With more than 300 performances taking place this year, KOA campgrounds are seeing the benefit of having live entertainment as well.
Kathy Kennedy, owner of the Bristol/Kingsport, Tenn., KOA, has had more than 20 KOA Approved Performers play at her campground and said she has been impressed by them all.
“Live entertainment adds a great atmosphere to the campground. Campers love to grab a lawn chair, sit back and relax with good music,” she said.
There are more than 250 KOA Approved Performers currently traveling and playing at KOA campgrounds. “We continue to add new artists to the program every week and enjoy hearing from those who love the campground atmosphere and playing for campers,” said Armstrong.
