Seaway Trail Bd. Adds CONY’s Bennett
Donald G. Bennett Jr., executive director of Campgrounds of New York (CONY), was elected to the board of directors of Seaway Trail Inc., according to a news release.
The board guides the not-for-profit organization that promotes and develops tourism and related economic development along the 518-mile shoreline of the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, the Niagara River and Lake Erie in New York and Pennsylvania.
“Donald Bennett brings valuable experience and skills to the Seaway Trail Inc. board of directors that will help us advance our mission to increase tourism industry revenues and related economic development trailwide and to enhance economic well-being and quality of life in the seaway corridor by managing and marketing it as a leading scenic byway,” said Chuck Krupke, board chairman.
The National Park Service designated the byway a National Recreation Trail in the early 1980s. In 1996, the route qualified in all six resource categories (scenic, natural, recreational, archeological, cultural and historic) to become New York state’s first National Scenic Byway.
Bennett became CONY administrator in February. For the previous two years, Bennett, who is part owner of Conesus Lake Campground, south of Rochester, N.Y., served as treasurer of CONY.
