Bidding is now open for a new concession contract in Cades Cove Campground Store in the Smoky Mountains National Park, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
The concession contract is set to expire, and the National Park Service is looking for a person, corporation or other entity to take over this fall.
The Southeast Regional Office of the National Park Service issued a prospectus seeking proposals for the new seven-year concession contract, which will begin Nov. 15, according to a statement released over the weekend.
The contract will be for services such as a convenience and campground store, snack bar, bicycle rental, vending, battery and device charging, and limited souvenir sales.
The Cades Cove store has operated since the 1950s under a series of concession contracts by Cades Cove Campground Inc. Gross revenues over the past five years have ranged from about $633,000 to about $740,000 annually.
This solicitation for commercial services is open and “fully competitive,” the release states.
A prospectus describing the business opportunity is available on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site at www.concessions.nps. gov/prospectus.cfm.
All proposals are due by Oct. 19.
