Officials of Upper Peninsula Power Co. (UPPCO) said Sept. 20 that the new west campground at Bond Falls Reservoir near Houghton, Mich., did not open in mid-September, as previously announced, according to the Ironwood Daily Globe, Ironwood, Mich.
“We had a problem with the new fire rings and grills,” said Bob Meyers, UPPCO’s project manager for regional generation. “We have to reorder the proper equipment and it could take several weeks for it to arrive and for us to install it.”
In the interim, UPPCO will keep the dispersed sites on the west side of Bond Falls open.
“It now looks as if the new campground will open some time in October and we’ll probably close the dispersed sites early in November,” Meyers said. “Following deer season, all the campsites will close until the new campground and the remaining dispersed sites reopen sometime in May.”
The east side campsites are still in the planning stage, the company said.
