The 2007 recipient of the Employer of the Year award presented by Workamper News is Nathan Adelman, sole operator of Odetah Campground in Bozrah, Conn. Adelman was nominated by his five Workamper couples.
“By our side supporting us both physically and mentally is Nathan,” said Lee and Karen Hunt, one of the Workamper couples. “He is a very good observer and is able to see what his employees need in order to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.”
“It is rare that employees are fortunate enough to work for a person who genuinely cares for his employees and customers the way Nathan does,” they added. Adelman provides his employees with color-coordinated uniform shirts and summer jackets, an Odetah Bucks card with bonus bucks for each employee, as well as sponsoring an employee outing of dinner and bowling.
“Generosity and kindness are just a couple of Nathan’s positive traits, which show throughout the campground,” they continued. Odetah hosts many weekend activities for the campers, both children and adults, at no additional cost. Adelman also doubled the contribution to the education fund raised by the campground residents for a seasonal camper’s grandchildren whose parents had been murdered.
Adelman was chosen out of 16 nominations sent in this year after the contest was announced in the July/August issue of Workamper News. He will receive a special mention in the magazine’s November/December issue.
This is the 10th year for this award, which recognizes employers who provide an exemplary environment for the Workamper experience. Workampers are adventuresome singles/couples who enjoy a lifestyle that combines a variety of interesting work opportunities with RV living.
Other previous winners include Winding River Resort (Colorado), Adventureland Amusement Park (Iowa), Normandy Farms Campground (Massachusetts), St. Paul East KOA (Minnesota) and Denali Park Hotel (Alaska).
