Ohio Ponders State Park Oil/Gas Drilling

As part of a debate on state energy policy, Ohio lawmakers are considering whether to allow drilling for oil and natural gas in state parks, according to The Associated Press.
A measure that has been advancing forward in behind-the-scenes discussion would allow drilling on state lands with trees and plants that have been growing 10 years or less.
The idea is viewed as a way to produce low-cost energy while increasing the state’s income.
Gov. Ted Strickland told the Plain Dealer in Cleveland his position on the issue will depend on the specifics.
The Ohio Environmental Council opposes expanded drilling, suggesting that Ohioans could find drilling rigs next to campground check-ins or concession stands.
