You know it's finally spring when the Scenic Park Campground in Sioux City, Iowa, opens, as it did on Saturday (March 29).
Despite a little wind and a cold and rainy forecast for the next few days, campers were already calling to make their campsite reservations for the new season, campground hostess Sue Brown said. If previous seasons are predictive, the campground will be filled with RVs, fifth-wheels and some tents, sometimes to capacity, until it closes on Oct. 31, according to the Sioux City Journal.
The municipal campground overlooks the Missouri River and offers 85 sites with water, electricity, sewer, cable and three full-convenience restrooms. Prices for the 2008 season are: $15 for tents; $17 for basic hookups of water, electricity and cable TV; $20 for full hookups and $22 for pull-through sites; and full hookup riverfront sites. Fifteen monthly sites are available for $400 in March, then $460 per month for the remainder of the season.
The opening month discount is because the sites may not have water at first since the water is not turned on until the frost is out of the ground.
Some sites can be reserved for individuals and groups. All other sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Campers staying for six nights will get the seventh night free.
