The U.S. Forest Service announced on April 2 that it will close Hoyer Campground near Greer, Ariz., this summer because of problems with a wastewater treatment facility.
A news release said the Forest Service will refund about $10,000 in campsite reservation fees, according to KNXV-TV, Phoenix. The campground is located east of Phoenix near the New Mexico state line.
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest Resources Staff Officer Bob Taylor said the nearby 24-unit Benny Creek Campground is scheduled to open this summer
Hoyer Campground was built in the 1970s.
The forest service said the cost to replace the wastewater system at Hoyer is $1 million.
