Plans for a regional campground conference in 2009 were unveiled during the 4th Annual Oregon RV Park and Campground Association (ORCA) State Convention April 15-17 at the Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort in Canyonville, Ore.
The March 2009 regional conference will be held in Reno, Nev., and bring together campground associations from Oregon, Idaho, California and Arizona, explained guest speaker Jo Ann Mickelson, a board member representing Region 6 of the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC).
Approximately 80 park owners, operators and suppliers to the RV park and campground industry attended the ORCA convention.
Outgoing ORCA president Roger Thompson spoke of the production of the first state directory and displayed the trophy presented to ORCA for winning the Small State Directory of the Year award at the national ARVC InSites convention last November in Phoenix. He told of other advertising projects undertaken by ORCA for its members throughout the year and of the first one-day fall meeting held in October 2007.
Another of the guest speakers was Craig Tutor of Oregon Travel Information Council. As manager of three of the Travel Information Council’s programs — Wireless Rest Areas program, TripCheck.com, and the 14 Travel Information Centers operated in Oregon’s rest areas — he expressed the need to work together with Oregon RV parks and campgrounds to provide tourists to the state with the maximum amount of information. He encouraged ORCA to distribute its new tri-fold directory through the welcome centers situated on the state’s main entry points.
Thirteen companies exhibited their products and services at the vendor show.
Seminar speakers included Kelly Hogan of Nomad ISP on “the Evolution of Guest Digital Access within the Recreation Industry – It’s not just Wi-Fi and Web Access Anymore;” Bryan Tolli of Evergreen USA on “Optional Insurance Coverages: Understanding Your Commercial Property & Casualty Insurance Policy;” Mickelson on educational opportunities through ARVC and how to get industry education and provide it to park staff; and John Croce, Peggy Croce and James Urquhart on the topic “From Here to There – covering print media, website and grass roots marketing for even the smallest park.”
The newly elected ORCA board consists of President Gillian Rampley, Chinook RV Park, Waldport; Vice President Robin Schwieterman, Loon Lake RV Resort, Reedsport; Secretary/Treasurer Connie Law, AtRivers Edge RV Resort, Brookings; and Past President Roger Thompson, Driftwood RV Park, Brookings.
Directors are Dean Kelley, Don Jenkins and Terry McMullen.
