Dells Resort Hosts Film Celebs
Actor Christian Bale and Michael Mann (writer/director/producer best known for Miami Vice) stayed at Yogi Bear's Camp-Resort in Wisconsin Dells for a week this spring while filming the Universal Studios' movie “Public Enemies.”
The $130 million blockbuster – to be released July 2009 – stars Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as an FBI chief.
Also staying at the Wisconsin Dells Jellystone Park were Stephen Dorff (Blade), Emilie De Ravin (Lost) and Rory Cochrane (CSI.) According to a story in the current issue of Jellystone Journal, a publication of Leisure Systems Inc. for its Yogi Bear Jellystone Park franchisees, the park property was used as Universal Studios' back lot including costumes, make-up, producers, directors, actors, stunt men, body doubles and a host of other production people totaling around 200 crew members. The filming took place next door at Ishnala Restaurant and on Mirror Lake.
The crew was in Wisconsin Dells for about three weeks filming. Brent and Cate Gasser, owners of the Jellystone Park, spent time talking with Bale while he was shopping for a Yogi Bear plush character in their store. Rob Davis, park recreation manager; Minna Laitinen, general manager; and the Gasser family got a chance to spend time on set during the filming of a chase scene at Ishnala Restaurant.
"We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to host Mr. Mann, Mr. Bale and the staff of Universal Studios for their new endeavor and wish them much success," said Brent Gasser.
