The family who built Jo Mary Lake Campground near Millinocket, Maine, from the ground up is leaving the business.
For decades, Jo Mary Lake Campground attracted vacationers from across the country with its affordable prices. But the landowners have decided not to renew the lease to the Smith family this year, according to WCSH-TV – Portland. A spokesperson from Prentiss Carlisle, the company that manages that land, said the family was not willing to invest enough money in the campground. The Smith family is sad to let go.
“We built the road down to the beach so they’d have access through the campground, they built the sites that are there, the picnic tables, everything that’s there is from them, you know, their hard work,” Kim Glidden told the TV station.
The campground will open under the management of the North Maine Woods this summer until the landowners can decide on a long-term plan for the campground.
