$40,000 KOA Giveaway Attracting Campers
KOA’s “$40K Giveaway” promotional campaign launched July 31 via e-mail to over 1 million campers and it seems to be working.
“It’s the added wow factor that’s so great!” San Diego Metro, Calif., KOA owner Clint Bell said in a company news release. “People are clicking through from their own e-mail inboxes to our website – we’re certainly getting a lot more hits. Any time you give away $40,000, it’s great fun!”
Bell says the excitement generated by the promotion translates to perceived value in his campers’ minds. “They get a discount by presenting their KOA Value Kard Rewards program card, then they may get a deal we are offering on our own campground, then they’re told they are automatically eligible to win $10,000. They walk away from registering at the front desk feeling that those were dollars well spent.”
Bell said he’s sure his campers are taking advantage of the chance to win $10,000 in cash.
“About 35% to 40% of my current registrations are new names I haven’t seen before,” he said. “I think many of the new guests are Internet savvy and are finding their way to us through the e-mail blast and online reservations.”
Any camper, registered for any four nights, at any KOA in the month of August, is automatically entered into one of four $10,000 cash drawings. Campers don’t have to do anything special to enter.
“With the economic challenges we all face, compounded with this summer’s fuel prices, we just wanted to find one more reason – or 40,000 more reasons – for campers to keep on camping in August,” said KOA President and Chief Operating Officer Shane Ott.
KOA has a database of more than 1 million campers who have opted to receive e-mail messages from the company. Once the promotion was ready to roll out, the message hit campers’ inboxes in time for them to plan to camp four nights within August.
Winners will be announced in September.
