AGI’s ‘The Rally’ to Promote Volunteer Efforts
As a way of giving back to its host community, Affinity Group Inc.’s “The Rally” in April 2009 is adopting Rio Grande Community Farm (RGCF) in Albuquerque, N.M., with a day of volunteer work efforts, according to a news release.
The Rally is scheduled for April 17-20 at The Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque and the work day is planned for April 15.
A not–for–profit corporation, RGCF has partnered with the city of Albuquerque since 1997 to offer community-based agricultural programs at Los Poblanos Fields, 138 acres of historic farmland located in Albuquerque’s North Valley.
RGCF grows food and crops for both people and wildlife with many of their food crops distributed to city schools and local organizations that provide supplemental food services. As part of its mission, RGCF also creates hands–on educational and training programs for students.
Attendees to the Albuquerque Rally can volunteer to help plant, weed and perform similar tasks at the farm as part of the work efforts. Children are welcome to participate, and special activities will be designed especially for them. Transportation to and from the farm as well as a sack lunch will be provided. Volunteers will be allowed to arrive at the Rally one day early on April 14 and receive one night of free dry camping.
