Manitoba Campground Sits Empty

The former campground near Emerson, Manitoba, continues to sit empty and unused.
The facility was taken over by the province when the developers of the campground pulled out of the project several years ago, according to the Pembina Valley Online, Winkler, MB. Wayne Arseny, mayor of Emerson, a town of less than 1,000 located near the North Dakota border, says the province has put the campground on the back burner.
He said the province’s natural resources department has no budget to develop the campground as most of their money in the region is earmarked for St. Malo Park.
Arseny notes it’s going to take a private developer with a vision to make the campground a success. He says the facility has most of the infrastructure in place, and has tremendous potential as a nature campground with its many trails and the Red River nearby.
