The 2009 Earlybird RV Show and Sale at Tradex in Abbotsford, British Columbia, will be the largest RV event of its kind in Western Canada this year.
With dozens of dealers, manufacturers and exhibitors showcasing the newest products, accessories and technology, the Earlybird RV Show and Sale – scheduled to run Thursday (Jan.29) to Sunday – is an ideal indicator for what’s new in the British Columbia industry, according to the Abbotsford Times.
So what’s in store for RVing in 2009?
Research shows that RVers plan on spending more time enjoying the campground experience and less on the road in 2009. Looking to take advantage of the ability to hit the road much more quickly and easily than planning traditional vacations or weekend trips, RVers say they plan on taking more frequent, shorter trips, closer to home.
Despite fluctuating fuel prices, RV travel remains a great value. A comprehensive 2008 vacation cost comparison study shows that a family of four can save 27% to 61% on vacation costs depending on the type of trip and type of RV used.
Even with higher fuel prices, more than three-fourths of RV owners say their RV vacations cost less than other forms of vacation.
The trend watch also shows that RVers are still filling campgrounds. Higher fuel prices aren’t stopping RVers from visiting RV parks and campgrounds.
Campground owners report that RV reservations increased between 5% and 15% in 2008 over 2007.
Lifestyle trends continue to spur demand for RVs.
RV owners overwhelmingly said in recent surveys that their RV makes it easier to take more frequent weekend getaways or mini-vacations that accommodate busy family schedules.
Nine of ten RV owners plan three or more short trips (up to four days) in the spring and summer, according to surveys.
And finally, a trend expected to continue throughout the next decade is the attractiveness of RV ownership for young buyers.
