The Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) has begun to sell $50 gift certificates that campers may use to make purchases at PCOA's 230 member campgrounds.
PCOA began offering the certificates on its website,, in December. Certificates may be applied toward camping fees, store purchases, amenities – anything offered at that campground. They carry no expiration date and may not be redeemed for cash.
The idea is for campers to use the certificates for the goods or services provided by the member campground. Each campground is responsible for the accounting portion of the certificates. That is, campers may make multiple purchases with the certificate as long as a portion of the $50 value remains.
Certificates are valid for use at only one campground and will only be available in $50 denominations.
Once redeemed, the campground owner sends the certificates into the PCOA office and will receive $50 in return.
PCOA surmises the certificates will not only be used as gifts but also with radio, print and TV media as trade-outs for advertising. They also will be used as prizes for online contests and awarded to online survey participants on a random basis.
The new program will allow PCOA member campground owners to benefit from PCOA's advertising dollars.
