TACO Notes 28% Hike in January Web Visits

“Camping has always been the most affordable vacation option, and these numbers suggest that consumers are increasingly exploring the merits of camping this year as the economy continues in recession,” said Brian Schaeffer, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO), which manages the site.
He added that the 28% increased in unique visitors was accompanied by a 21% increase in page views. “This means that people are taking more time to see what campgrounds and RV resorts have to offer in terms of facilities, amenities and activities,” Schaeffer said in a news release.
While campgrounds have long been viewed as the vacation domain of tenters and RV enthusiasts, many private parks across Texas have invested in cabins and park models with kitchen facilities, which enable families to cut expenses by cooking some of their own meals. Many of the park model-style cabins also have lofts, which are popular with children.
“Private campgrounds and RV resorts are increasingly investing in accommodations to entice people who don’t have camping equipment, but still want to be able to enjoy an outdoor recreation experience with their families and friends,” Schaeffer said.
Most visitors to also request a copy of the 2009 Texas RV Travel & Camping Guide, a request for which also entitles them to participate in the association’s quarterly drawing for $250 worth of free gasoline. is affiliated with, and, a searchable portable for private campgrounds and RV resorts across the United States.
