The Kansas Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (KARVC) welcomed 15 members (out of 26) to its annual Spring Fling March 2-3 at the Capital City KOA in Topeka.
The majority of the event was held cracker barrel style or in roundtable discussions with everyone present participating, reported Mary Arlington, KARVC treasurer.
Many members saw for the first time the new brochure-style 2009 Kansas RV & Camping Guide and gave “a resounding hooray and 2-thumbs up motions,” Arlington said. The directory will retain the same format for 2010.
Daniel Gurley, membership director for the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), reviewed ARVC’s new programs and reminded them of many long-standing benefits.
Guest speaker Mike Zamrzla, appearing for U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, spoke on the economic stimulus package and on alternative energy resources.
During the meeting, the KARVC board announced a new alliance partnership with GuestReviews, the firm hired by ARVC to conduct its new guest surveys.
Next week the KARVC board will unveil its newest feature: a members’ only web page with special pages for the board meetings, committee meetings, member documents, member blogs and other features.
For the consumers’ web page, KARVC will be launching its online ad sales this month. KARVC has a list of businesses (non-parks) who would like to see the package. “We want RVers to know about Kansas. I’m hoping to see ads running sometime in early April,” said Sheila Wagner, board member.
Officers and board members for the coming year are:

  • President Harold Hays, Lawrence KOA, Lawrence.
  • Vice President David Kepler, Walnut Grove RV Park, Merriam.
  • Treasurer Mary Arlington, High Plains Camping, Oakley.
  • Secretary Carolyn Fenn, Four Seasons RV Acres, Abilene.
  • Board members Paul and Charlotte Pinick, Emporia RV Park, Emporia; Sheila Wagner, USI RV Park, Wichita; and Eric Ossiander, Prairie Band Casino Resort & RV Park, Mayetta.
The membership led the direction in which the board is to move, being pleased with how this worked for 2008, Arkington noted.
“KARVC membership is truly alive,” she said. “They are now very vocal with positive directions for the board. This is what member associations are supposed to be like. The board shouldn’t be telling; it should be listening. Seeing how this association has evolved and strengthened is extremely exciting and rewarding.” Board member Paul Pinick said, “The members studied the options to what we think are important to our association and then we focused on those.”
Arlington further added, “Financially, we are very stable and can actually entertain programs and projects we’ve never been able to consider before.”
The 2010 Spring Fling will be held March 1-2 at a Kansas RV park yet to be determined.
