The 5th Annual Louisiana Campground Owners Association (LCOA) Convention March 10 at the Paragon Classic Casino in Marksville, La., attracted 45 people representing 30 campgrounds.
Membership growth the past few years is spurring the association to expand its annual convention, which also is open to campground owners from Mississippi.
“We’re looking to expand our convention from one day to two days starting in 2010 to include additional exhibitor time and educational seminars for our members,” Sharon Vennen, LCOA executive director, told Woodall’s Campground Management.
The convention sponsored five seminars, which were sandwiched around the trade show featuring 14 vendors. Seminar topics and speakers were:

  • “Considering Park Trailers As Rental Units,” Bill Garpow, Recreational Park Trailer Industry Association.
  • “Creating A Roadmap for Financial Viability," Ron Beard, Ron Beard Associates.
  • “Understanding Legal Tools: The Key to Asset Protection and Tax Reduction,” Dan McNeff, National Foundation for Asset Protection.
  • “Internet Marketing,” Roxi Baxley, AGS Publishing and Internet Services.
  • “State of the Industry,” Maurice LeBlanc Jr., Louisiana park owner and member of the ARVC Foundation.
Vennen reported that business in Louisiana, where favorable weather allows campgrounds to remain open year-round, remains good.
“From all reports we had a pretty good fall and winter and look forward to the spring and summer seasons,” Vennen reported.
LCOA printed 40,000 2009 campground directories and has been distributing them at state visitor centers, through members, via the Internet and at RV shows so far this year in the state in Houma, Lake Charles, Kenner and Lafayette.
New officers and directors for 2009 were elected at the convention and are:

  • President Maurice LeBlanc Jr., Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, Robert.
  • Vice President Rene Goings, Silver Creek Campground, Mount Hermon.
  • Secretary-Treasurer Bob Conner, Whispering Meadow, Westlake.
  • Directors LeAnne Everhardt, Land-O-Pines Family Campground Inc., Covington; Linda Johnson, Riverview RV Park, Vidalia; Kenny Scott, Pavilion RV Park, West Monroe; and Scott Scheneck, Pontchartrain Land, New Orleans.
