The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) is among a number of industry groups lobbying U.S. senators for passage of the Tourism Promotion Act (S.1023).

“Hopefully you have all already spoken with your senate representative regarding this issue,” said ARVC president and CEO Linda Profaizer in an e-mail blast sent out late Friday. “We wanted to let you know that the voting on this issue in the Senate will take place on Tuesday, June 16. It is on the calendar, officially. Please make sure to speak with your senator before then if you haven’t already.”

Profaizer encouraged her constituents to send an e-mail from their state association to the senators, stressing one or more of the following points:

  • The legislation promises to increase international travel to the U.S. and lead to over $4 billion of increased annual economic activity in our nation.
  • The global market for travel continues to increase, yet since 2001, the U.S. has experienced a decline each year in visitors; incoming visitors to the U.S. have declined by 633,000 a year since 2001.
  • On average, international visitors to the U.S. spend $4,500 in the U.S. — revenue that can make a substantial contribution to the U.S. economy and support thousands of new jobs.
  • An increasing number of international visitors want to visit rural areas and small towns and stay in RV parks and campgrounds.
  • The Travel Promotion Act is supported by President Obama, Vice President Biden, White House Chief of Staff Emanuel and Secretary of State Clinton, Secretary of Interior Salazar, Secretary of Labor Solis and Secretary of Transportation LaHood.
  • We urge you to co-sponsor and vote in favor of S 1023.
