A forest fire west of Tampico, Wash., has grown to at least 500 acres, forced the closure of several U.S. Forest Service roads and the evacuation of some public campgrounds.

It’s also growing, according to the Yakima Herald

The blaze is located in the timber-covered hills of the Ahtanum State Forest near Green Lake, southwest of Divide Ridge, said Gabe Jasso, a coordinator with the Central Washington Interagency Coordination Center in Wenatchee.

It’s about 15 to 20 miles west of Tampico and spreading toward the northwest.

About 70-80 firefighters were on scene, said Jasso late Saturday, and another 80 were on their way.

Officials have evacuated at least two campgrounds, but Jasso was unsure how many and their names. The state Department of Natural Resources Web sites lists five campgrounds in the forest.
