South Dakota State Park Camping Up 11%
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department says the number of people camping in state parks is nearly 11% ahead of last year.
The agency said the numbers remained strong last month, according to Associated Press.
Bob Schneider, state park assistant director, said many families are vacationing close to home this summer. He said rather than staying just for a weekend, many campers are staying three days or longer.
He also said moderate temperatures and good moisture have helped. Schneider said late summer is a good time to camp and that sites are available at most state park campgrounds.
