Commercial Recreation Specialists Inc. designed this splashpad for Milwaukee's Madison Park with an airport theme to reflect its proximity to the city's Timmerman Field.

Commercial Recreation Specialists (CRS) worked with Milwaukee County Public Works Engineering and Park and Recreation Departments to complete recent Splashpad installations at Madison Park and Washington Park, according to Ron Romens, CRS president.

CRS, which serves a number of markets, including RV parks and campgrounds, provided design assistance, technical consulting services, training and supplied water features manufactured by Vortex Aquatic Structures.

“Just as we have seen across the recreation industry, Milwaukee County found a Splashpad was the ideal solution for updating their parks because it has a lower total cost of ownership when compared to a wading pool or full-sized pool facility,” said Romens.

For example, fewer amenities are required (such as restrooms and changing facilities) and staff costs are reduced because life guards are not necessary. In addition, Splashpads offer better play value for people of all ages and abilities; and provide opportunities for multigenerational play. Many of the Vortex spray features are not only fun, but also teach important skills such as cause-and-effect learning, and foster cooperative play and motor skill development.

Both of the new Milwaukee County Splashpads feature customized designs to compliment the surrounding area. The Washington Park Splashpad, added to an existing swimming pool, has design features that pay tribute to Milwaukee’s manufacturing heritage with an industrial elegance theme that uses fluid lines and stainless steel elements, including a custom motorcycle feature. Located near Timmerman Airport, Madison Park’s Splashpad has an aviation theme with custom concrete and spray patterns that resemble runways and a unique helicopter vertical spray feature.

Commercial Recreation Specialists is headquartered in Verona, Wis., with representatives in New Jersey, and serves customers across the United States and the Caribbean.
