Misty River Cabins and RV Resort is donating 40 of its 72 campsites Oct. 10, with all proceeds benefiting the fire department’s Coats for Our Community program. The campsites, which normally cost between $40 and $45 to reserve, will cost $20 per campsite the day of the fundraiser. Each $20 donation will go to buy coats for the program, according to the Maryville (Tenn.) Daily Times.

In addition to the campsite fundraiser, campers are encouraged to bring new coats or used coats that are in good condition to donate to the program. Blount County Fire Department will have a fire truck there on the day of the event to remind campers of fire safety and to accept coats.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of the $20 campsite fee on Oct. 10 is asked to make reservations by calling (865) 981-4300. Misty River will also allow campsite rentals for those without reservations on the day of the event, as space permits.

Coats for Our Community is a program aimed at making sure everyone in Blount County has a coat during the cold winter weather. Last year, firefighters distributed coats to more than 1,800 people, at least 800 of which were children. The Coats for Our Community program is also connected to the Fire Safety program, which works to make sure all Blount County residents have working fire alarms.

Misty River Cabins and RV Resort, located just west of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, was named the 2008-2009 “Campground of the Year” by the Tennessee Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.
