Yosemite National Park Records Best Year Since ’96

Yosemite National Park welcomed 3,866,970 visitors in 2009, the most since the peak year of 1996, the park announced this week.

The total in 1996 was 4,190,557, and visits declined year to year through 2006, according to the Merced Sun Star. The number has been increasing since then.

Other milestones in Yosemite attendance:

  • 1954, number of visits reaches 1 million.
  • 1967, number of visits reaches 2 million.
  • 1987, number of visits reaches 3 million.

    Yosemite is such a great place to go sightseeing. It’s no wonder that the number of people going to see this great place is increasing.
