Iowa Campgrounds Filling Up for July 4 Weekend
Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials said today (April 6) that camping spaces at state parks are filling fast for the July 4 holiday weekend, according to KCCI-TV, Des Moines.
Officials said reservations for campsites opened last Friday and electrical sites at the more popular campgrounds have already been booked.
Campers wanting an electrical site at Backbone, Bellevue, Black Hawk, Clear Lake, Emerson Bay, Lake of Three Fires, Ledges, Lewis and Clark and Pleasant Creek should plan to arrive prior to July 4 to secure a first come campsite, officials said.
“There is no doubt that the July 4 holiday is the premier camping time for state parks, so those campers who would like a site with electricity should be making reservations soon or plan to go plenty early to secure a site,” said Kevin Szcodronski, chief of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ State Parks Bureau. “Some of the more popular locations filled quickly and, as is the case at Emerson Bay on West Okoboji Lake, the non electric sites are now filling.”
Cabin reservations are also moving quickly. Cabins are currently available at Lake Darling, Lake Wapello, Palisades-Kepler and Waubonsie state parks.
Walnut Woods State Park is back on the campsite reservation system. Walnut Woods had undergone a campground renovation and when the renovation was completed, the park was flooded by the Raccoon River. The cleanup and repairs are now complete and the campground is open again.
