For the first time, Louisville Metro Parks will open Eva Bandman Park near downtown Louisville for Thunder Over Louisville camping, according to Louisville Business First.

Thunder Over Louisville, which will be held Saturday, April 17, is an air show and fireworks display that will serve as the public kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Tent and RV camping will be available Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17, and Thunder Day parking also will be available, according to a news release from Metro Parks.

RV parking is $200 for both nights, with a $50 discount if the fee is paid in advance. All parking will be on pavement. Trailers up to 40 feet in length, with awnings, will be permitted.

Tent camping is $50 for both nights for one vehicle. Each additional vehicle is $15.

Thunder Day parking is $20, cash only, paid at the time of arrival.

The park, just east of downtown on River Road, will open to campers at 4 p.m. Friday. They will be allowed until noon on Sunday, April 18.

Metro Parks will provide port-o-lets, picnic tables and around-the-clock staffing.
