North Carolina Raises Campground Fees

May 3, 2010 by   - () Comments Off on North Carolina Raises Campground Fees

The cheap recreation offered at North Carolina’s state parks is getting a little more expensive, according to the Associated Press.

Beginning Saturday (May 1), fees for camping, cabin and boat rentals, admission to swimming areas and renting picnic shelters went up. The state Division of Parks & Recreation says it’s the first time fees have been raised since 2003.

Campsites without utilities will now cost $2 more. Admission to swim areas will go up by a dollar and renting a medium-sized picnic shelter for the day will cost $10 extra.

The higher fees were authorized last year as the General Assembly scrambled to close a budget deficit. State officials estimate the increases will bring in about $2.5 million a year.
