Gorin Updates ARVC Business Forum on Public Affairs
“The Great Capitals of America Campout” is a new promotional venture designed to the introduce Americans to the benefits of camping in the outdoors.
David L. Gorin, a campground consultant to the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), outlined highlights of this new promotion to the ARVC Business Forum on June 8. The group was meeting in Goshen, Ind.
The event will be tied to Get Outdoors Month now held each June, sponsored by a number of organizations and led by the American Recreation Coalition. This latest wrinkle will encourage demonstration camping on the lawns of state capitols across the U.S., as well as a public site somewhere in Washington, D.C., Gorin explained.
“It has the potential of attracting great public attention on camping,” Gorin told the forum members while soliciting their support. “For our industry it could be a showcase event.”
Gorin lobbied the forum on behalf of the Campground Association of Management Professionals (CAMP), of which he is a member by virtue of his dual role as executive director of the Virginia Campground Association (VCA).
Corporate sponsors are being sought to help underwrite the event, Gorin said. The forum, and by extension ARVC itself, was not asked for funding support, just its verbal backing.
Meanwhile, Gorin praised the Obama administration for connecting the value of outdoor recreation and public health and said its support could go far in helping to insure the new event’s success.
