Independence Day is the biggest focus of the year for Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and this year the park is planning something new — a Salute to the Troops.

“July 4 is our highest occupancy time at our park,” said Barb Krumm, marketing director. “Most people are used to a salute on Memorial Day, but we’ve decided it’s a great time to do it on July 4.”

Ocean Lakes will host the ceremony on the 4th to honor veterans on its oceanfront deck and will be handing out special stickers for Ocean Lakes’ teammates and for veterans to wear to say thanks. A golf car parade will be held on Monday of the holiday weekend.

The campground plans to stream the Salute to the Troops on Facebook. Visit, or
