The Camrose Exhibition Trail RV Park, near the Camrose Regional Exhibition in central Alberta, offers visitors 107 RV sites in a modern facility with a little country charm, the Camrose Canadian reported.

"Back in 1982 we were promised a campground and back then that was easy to do because the cost was about $100 a site," said CRE manager Wynn McLean. "We found out very quickly that wasn't the case. It's not that we don't keep our promises, it just takes us a little while. So today we have a campground. We did that promise in exchange for some land to build a racetrack and our intentions were good. It just takes a little time to fulfill those promises, but we did and are very proud of it."

McLean thanked those who helped make the project a reality over the last three years.

"To do a project you look at the short term gains, the medium gains and the long term gains," said County Reeve Don Gregorwich. "I think it is easy to see the short term as it is being used right now and it is going to be used for a long time to come and bring a lot of benefit to this community far beyond today and years to come."

The campground opened in early May with 30- and 50-amp power, shower facilities, picnic tables and pits at every site, a children's playground and a store with RV supplies. Rates for sites can be purchased daily, weekly and monthly.

"The first phase was for 107 sites. The second phase will have 125 additional sites, but that will be in about five to 10 years from now," said McLean.

Because of the popularity with work crews, the campground may be open during the winter and year-round.

"Right now people can tent on their sites. We will have a tenting section that will be available next year. We seeded the grass this year and wanted it to grow in before offering it to tenters."

The campground also received the blessing of the Good Sam Club.

"That was very positive for us. The Good Sam club said it met their requirements and they certified it as being up to good standards and it means a lot to us. It shows that this campground is well looked after and meets the needs of campers."
