Sponsors expect close to 500,000 people to attend the 70th Annual Sturgis Bike Rally, which gets underway today (Aug. 6) in Sturgis, S.D.

Early indications point to a big rally this year. Campgrounds were reporting an increase in reservations, only about 20 to 30 motels rooms out of the 5,300 in Rapid City were still available for rally week, and more vendors were setting up early. As of Tuesday night, the city had sold 119% more vendor licenses than at the same time last year, the Rapid City Journal reported

The Buffalo Chip Campground will have a particularly strong concert lineup this year, with longtime rockers such as Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Ozzy Osbourne and the Doobie Brothers, as well as groups that appeal to younger fans, such as Disturbed and Orianthi.

Pee-wee Herman will appear at the Chip on Sunday and Monday ( Aug. 8 and 9) to raise money for charities, including the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.
