Thomas Peckham, the owner of Moon Meadows Campground near Erie, Pa., who had been jailed since July 28, was released Tuesday (Aug. 3)

In a hearing before Judge Shad Connelly that lasted just five minutes, an attorney for the Erie County Health Department confirmed that the Station Road property had been vacated over the weekend. The judge then ordered Peckham released, reported.

Peckham has been at odds with county health and law enforcement officials since June 2009 when a county health inspector found puddles of raw sewage and evidence of substandard septic work done on the property.

Peckham was jailed when he refused to enforce the judge’s order to remove about 100 people from the campground, including 26 permanent residents.
