Ocean Lakes Family Campground, located along the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach, S.C., will host several big events this month.

The campground will host the 6th Annual All Star Golf Car Show on Saturday (Oct. 23) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can enter their custom electric golf cars in one of several categories for a chance to win prizes and receive discounts on parts and accessories, according to a news release. This event is open to the public.

Tomberlin representatives will be on site to show a selection of their LSVs (low-speed vehicles). LSVs are a new addition to Ocean Lakes Golf Cars lineup for 2011, in addition to Club Cars, used E-Z-GOs, parts and accessories.

After the Golf Car Show, the Cars in Costume Golf Car Parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. as Ocean Lakes guests can dress up as well as decorate their golf cars to participate in the parade around the campground.

The 27th Annual South Carolina Fossil Fair  will be held at Ocean Lakes from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Oct. 30. The event is free and open to the public. This marks the 10th consecutive year that this event has been held at Ocean Lakes Family Campground, according to a news release.

Presented by the South Carolina Fossil Association, the fossil fair features museum specialists from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History’s Department of Paleobiology, who will be on hand to identify fossils brought by participants. Guests can also see fossil and shell collections from various parts of the world.

Hands-on activities have continued to grow in popularity at the fossil fair. Learn how to recover fossils with the aid of Smithsonian experts at a mock dig site. Dig for shark teeth through materials from the PCS Phosphate Mine in Aurora, N.C. Participants can make necklaces with the teeth they find and add beads. All materials will be supplied. Guests can also tour the Ocean Lakes’ Nature Center Discovery Lab, featuring more than 10,000 shells and fossils, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity to speak with collectors and learn more about this educational hobby,” said Barb Krumm, director of marketing and public relations for Ocean Lakes Family Campground. “The Fossil Fair seems to get more popular each year, especially with Scout troops and school students of all ages.”

Ocean Lakes Family Campground was awarded the title of 2008-2009 National “RV Park of the Year” by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), and is the largest campground on the East Coast. It is one of the largest in the United States with over 310 acres of campsites and beach house rentals.

Meanwhile, a weekend of halloween family-friendly events is set for Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30. Registered guests staying at the campground can attend all the Halloween events.
