Owner Sees New Use for RV Park
The owners of the Dallas West Mobile Home RV Park are hoping to make a few changes at their place on West Commerce Street, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Cienda Partners plans to seek city council permission to operate what would amount to a business center on wheels. It has hired Monte Anderson, owner/redeveloper of the Belmont Hotel, to set up and manage the venture that would involve leasing eight to nine spaces for trailers, which could house perhaps retail shops, offices and food stands.
"Imagine it being a retail strip," he said. "The more mixed the better."
Think clothing creators and other artists, an insurance office or tatoo parlor — whatever the zoning allows, Anderson said. "What I think is needed there is basic services."
People could use their own trailer or lease one with the land, he said.
David Cossum, the city's assistant director of planning, said the property has the necessary zoning for such a venue, although city regulations — as in the case of food service — would apply.
The city code also requires that the owners receive City Council approval for such doings.
"I think we're going to get it done," said Anderson, adding he's written a letter to the city requesting such clearance. Cossum said he wasn't sure if such a letter had been received.
