The Douglas County (Ga.) Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Board Tuesday (Nov. 2) will be asked to amend its future land use map to allow development of an RV park on the site of a former mobile home park, the .

Brett Whiteside is asking for an amendment to build the RV park 5.1 acres located at 2711 Brook Forest Road. The site is currently vacant and was once the location of Brookside Mobile Home Park, which was damaged by the September 2009 flood, the Carroll County Times-Georgian reported.

In his application, Whiteside said the property’s location in a floodplain prevents the permanent placement of mobile homes.

The county planning and zoning department is recommending denial of the request, expressing concern about the location and its access through residential property.

“The surrounding area is heavily residential and all access to this property is via local residential roadways,” the county staff said in its recommendations. “The constant access to this site by RVs and motor homes will place an undue burden on the local roadway system and is potentially dangerous, given the large size of the vehicles.”
