Texas RV Park Gets All the Dope on Drug Smugglers
Law enforcement agents spent several hours early Saturday (Nov. 13) recovering a suburban and a load of marijuana from the Rio Grande River.
The alleged drug smugglers drove the SUV into the water overnight to escape from police. Residents of the Chimney Park RV park have seen it before; they say it happens all the time, KRGV-TV, Rio Grande Valley, reported.
"It's like watching a movie," said Carolyn Church. She has made her home in the park for the last 10 years and said living by the river never gets old. The park's boat ramp is a popular exit for smugglers, according to officials. When the chase ended here Saturday morning, Church was up early to keep an eye on both sides of the river.
"I'm looking to just see if they had guns or something," said Church, "but I think we were pretty well protected." She said Winter Texaans will not stop coming to the Valley because of incidents like this. Police want everyone to be careful, even if it happens all the time.
