Not far from Badger Road, on 25 open acres of grassland near Kennewick, Wash., a couple has visions of a family RV Park complete with a petting zoo, splash park, and swimming pool.
Dave and Charlotte Schlotfeldt told KEPR-TV, Pasco, Wash., they've been researching a new destination park to go in the Tri-Cities for months. As local home builders and RV owners, the couple felt there were too few local places in to spend time in their RV.
This week, the Benton County Planning Department brought the Schlotfeldts' vision one step closer to reality. County leaders signed off on the recreational RV park for up to 182 RV sites and a dozen other campsites off of Wiser Parkway and Badger Road. The park would be built on 20 of the 25 acres and designed for temporary stays rather than permanent ones.
The Schlotfeldts hope to make the park a one-stop-shop for families — local or visiting — by eventually offering a pool, basketball courts, a large recreational room, a splash park, Wi-Fi and the petting zoo, among other things.
"That's exactly what we want for a destination park. You don't have to leave the park. You have something for everyone," Charlotte Schlotfeldt said. "I think that we can add something to the community."
The Schlotfeldts eventually settled on the 20 acres north of Badger RRoad since it's right off of the freeway and would be the first of its kind with such easy road access for RV owners, they said.
The couple's next step is to get a mixed-use permit from the county in order to continue with their design plans.
