“Yogi Bear” may have received lukewarm reviews in the U.S., but in New Zealand where the movie was filmed, it topped the New Zealand box office in its opening weekend, voxy.co.nz reported.

Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon and shot entirely in New Zealand, the film has taken the coveted top spot, proving it is currently the first choice film for parents in the competitive school holiday season.

While Yogi and Boo Boo (voiced by Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake) are the stars of the movie, the beautiful New Zealand scenery certainly gives a spectacular performance. Live action sequences for the film were shot on location at the Whakamaru Reserve in the North Island, within the Auckland CBD for the city scenes (with internal scenes shot in Mayor Len Brown’s office) and Woodhill State Forest saw Jellystone Park recreated in all it’s splendor. New Zealander’s also made up much of the film crew, in addition to on-camera extras and actor’s doubles being locally sourced.
