RV Park to Honor the Military on Wednesday
Veterans young and old will be honored at a Military Appreciation and Homes For Our Troops benefit Wednesday (Jan. 26) at Country Roads RV Resort Village in Yuma, Ariz., the Yuma Sun reported.
The daylong program will start with a carnival and include a golf cart parade. It will end with a special dinner program honoring veterans.
All profits will got to Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), a nonprofit organization that provides homes to soldiers who are severely injured. Most recipients have suffered loss of limbs or traumatic brain injuries.
“Nobody is doing what they’re doing. The need for these special adaptive homes is great,” event coordinator Carol Ganzer said. “Over 3,500 troops are injured to the point that they need special assistance to live in a home vs. a nursing home or hospital. Over 100 homes have been built and we are working on funding another 100.”
Once a home is awarded, the soldier receives the deed, she added.
Ganzer noted the organization was given the highest charity rating by both Charity Navigator and American Institute of Philanthropy. For additional information on Homes forOur Troops, visit www.homesforourtroops.org.
Wednesday’s event will also honor the 245 veterans who live in the RV park as well as young veterans who have fought in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The carnival will kick off at 11 a.m., followed by a golf cart parade around the park at 2 p.m. The clubhouse doors will open for dinner at 5 p.m. A color guard led by a bagpiper will post the colors at 5:40 p.m.
After dinner, a program will feature two guest speakers from the Marine Corps Air Station and will include an introduction to the HFOT as well as a live Skype connection to the recipient of a home.
The program will also include music, raffles and prize giveaways.
