Township Ups Fees to Campground Operators
The cost to run a campground near Gettysburg, Pa., just got more expensive.
The five-member Cumberland Township Board of Supervisors voted this week to revise the fees that are placed upon campgrounds, the Gettysburg Times reported.
Instead of the old $100 annual flat rate imposed upon campgrounds, the fee has been reduced to $50, but land owners must also pay $10 yearly for each unit atop the campground. Supervisors and administrators noted that recreational vehicles result in “wear and tear” along Cumberland roadways, and that police are occasionally called to campgrounds, placing a strain on emergency services.
There are at least three campgrounds in Cumberland Township subject to the fee: Battlefield Campground Resort, along Emmitsburg Road; as well as Round Top and Artillery Ridge campgrounds, located along Taneytown Road.
The revised fee passed unanimously.
