People spent Monday (April 18) cleaning up along Wilson Creek after heavy rain caused flooding over the weekend.

Campers at the Killian Campground near Collettesville, N.C., scrambled to get to safety after Wilson Creek flooded early Saturday. The owner, Lil Hendricks, said the high water was a reminder of the power of Mother Nature, WSOC-TV, Charlotte, reported.

“This will make a believer,” Hendricks said. “If we weren't a believer before, this will make a real believer out of us.”

Firefighters from Charlotte and swift water rescue teams from across Caldwell County rescued two men who were trapped by flood waters. In two hours, the creek rose 8 1/2 feet after 5 inches of rain fell in the mountains.

On Monday, campers and family members worked to clean up the mess left behind.

“It's just part of nature,” camper Bill Price said.

“You got to respect Mother Nature,” Randy Coffey said. “You got to do that no matter where you go.”

No one was hurt by the fast-rising water.

Hendricks hopes the recent flooding won't keep people away.

“We don't want to close. We want to keep it open,” Hendricks said. “It's just a wonderful place for people to come and enjoy nature
