CO2 Overcomes Camper in Western Pennsylvania
State police say a man died at a western Pennsylvania campground from poisonous fumes given off by a propane heater he used to warm himself inside his pickup truck, the Beaver County Times reported.
Venango County Coroner Tyler Best says the dead man is 43-year-old Matthew Taylor, of Tionesta.
Police told the Erie Times-News the man was camping at the Tionesta Dam Outflow in Forest County before he was found dead about 7:30 a.m. Saturday (April 30).
Best is handling the investigation because the man was pronounced dead at a hospital in that county, UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
Best says blood tests are pending to confirm the cause of death, but it’s suspected that Taylor died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning from the heater, which was not properly vented in his truck.
