Family Campers Gather in Central Iowa
Campers and RVs will descend on Riverview Park on Marshalltown, Iowa, at a rate more than usual for a weekend beginning June 9 as the Iowa State Association of Family Campers and RVers gathers for its spring convention, the Marshalltown Times Republican reported.
Dozens of people will take part in the event which offers time for entertainment, games and fellowship among the camping crowd.
Events are at Riverview and include a public performance by the singing group 5 for 1 at 7 p.m. Friday night and a performance by The Lincoln Highway Band at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Visitors will also take tours of the Iowa Veterans Home and Orpheum Theater while they are in town and also hold seminars. When they are not at planned events, they will mingle with each other.
Around 30 camping units are expected to be a part of the gathering hosted by Mary and Dennis Borton of Le Grand.
“People get together and play games and sit around and talk,” Mary Borton said. “You can learn a lot from each other.”
Mary Borton said she expects people from Sioux City, Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids and even out of state visitors for what they call a “campvention.”
“There’s some that come from Illinois that are Iowa members,” she said.
Dennis Borton said the camping crowd is typically a very friendly bunch.
“They come from all walks of life and they’re all very friendly,” she said.
