Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, S.C., will be the site of a variety of family fun activities over the 4th of July weekend as teammates and guests celebrate the campground’s 40th birthday and Independence Day, according to a news release.

Several fun birthday-themed activities will take place on Saturday (July 2) Ocean Lakes’ official 40th birthday. In the gift-giving tradition, Ocean Lakes’ “Surprize Patrol” will randomly be giving away more than 150 prizes to guests over the weekend. Since Memorial Day, guests have been “surprized” with more than 500 prizes.

In its photo tradition, Ocean Lakes is staging the official birthday portrait at the 7-foot-tall mascot, Sandy Starfish, at 10 a.m. Any guest who shares a July 2 birthday is invited to be part of the group birthday portrait. Guests turning 40 years old on July 2 are encouraged to bring their ID to verify their birth date of July 2, 1971, and to receive a special gift.

In its tradition of sweets, Ocean Lakes ordered 10,000 cookies and guests are encouraged to stop in and enjoy the sweet treats. The evening will wrap up with Ocean Lakes’ poolside birthday party featuring a slideshow of Ocean Lakes snapshots, music provided by a DJ, pool games, Ocean Lakes trivia and prizes.

Highlights from the 4th of July festivities include a patriotic pet parade, the ever-popular patriotic golf car parade and the 2nd Annual Salute to the Troops. The parade and flyover give guests a chance to salute the nation’s armed forces and their families. Guests are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and crowd the beachfront at 1 p.m. for the flyover. Veterans are encouraged to pick up and wear special veteran stickers available at Ocean Lakes’ offices. The 1 p.m. coastal flyover by F-16 fighter jets honors all active and retired military. This year’s flyover will include four F-16 Vipers owned by members of the 77th Fighter Squadron, “The Gamblers” of the 20th Fighter Wing based at Shaw Air Force Base.
