Vendor Spotlight: Pacific Yurts, Industry Leader
Founded in 1978, Pacific Yurts, Cottage Grove, Ore., is the original designer and manufacturer of modern yurts, which are used around the world in public and commercial resorts and by private individuals.
Enjoyed by people from all walks of life, yurts combine the best of tent camping and cabin life because you can hear the soothing sounds of nature while remaining warm and cozy inside.
President and CEO Alan Bair says over its 33-year history of building the highest quality modern yurts, his company’s long list of innovations coupled with outstanding customer service has kept them at the top of the industry they created.
From French doors to reflective insulation to heavy-duty snow and wind upgrades, Pacific Yurts was the first to introduce many of the features that have made yurts a popular housing option in a variety of settings.
“Many of these innovations were developed in direct response to requests from our customers to enhance their experience,” Bair said.
In 1994, Oregon State Parks bought two yurts to attract campers year round. They were an immediate success and since then nearly 200 Pacific Yurts have been added in 19 Oregon state parks. The idea soon caught on nationally as both public and private campgrounds across the country realized the revenue potential and began developing their own yurt campgrounds. As the demand for its product grew, Pacific Yurts expanded into a new modern production facility and warehouse.
Today the company has a global reach. Bair said with adventure travel and ecotourism becoming the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry, Pacific Yurts can now be found in parks and recreation areas throughout the United States and on nearly every continent.
“Pacific Yurts have become a solution for those who want to provide access and accommodations in natural scenic areas while assuring guests and conservationists of minimal impact on the environment,” Bair said. “They can be offered as either simple retreats or luxury accommodations with interior bathrooms and kitchenettes.”
Recently the company introduced the unique Custom Curve window system – the first of its kind with a structurally engineered framework that follows the curved wall of the yurt and is operable from the inside.
Bair explained it avoids the flat panel appearance of other systems and creates the most aesthetically appealing window available in a yurt today.
“Our new energy efficient window system provides an exciting enhancement to our product line and ranks with the best of our many innovations,” he said.
Pacific Yurts’ success and reputation for sustainable business practices and innovation have attracted national and international recognition. The company has won numerous awards, including the Industrial Fabrics Association International Achievement award for new products, an award for outstanding commitment to productivity from the U.S. Senate, and State and Regional Exporter of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
“Pacific Yurts continues to maintain its status as the industry leader and preferred provider for campgrounds, parks and recreation areas by adding innovative options and remaining committed to long term value, the highest quality and unrivaled customer service,” Bair said.
“This year is shaping up to be a great year for us. We’re looking forward to working with even more campgrounds interested in providing a unique experience that can keep revenue flowing and happy campers coming back for more.”
