From The Coloradoan:

Long Draw Road on the Roosevelt National Forest is set to reopen today, the U.S. Forest Service announced Thursday (July 28).

The Long Draw and Grand View campgrounds will also reopen tomorrow.

The Forest Service announced in June that Long Draw Road, which was covered with snow until the end of last month, would remain closed to people and vehicles until at least the end of July to allow the Forest Service to remove hazardous bark beetle-killed trees.

The road, which intersects Colorado Highway 14 east of Cameron Pass, is the only access to Long Draw Reservoir and the Forest Service’s Grand View and Long Draw campgrounds.

It’s also the access point for the La Poudre Pass and Corral Creek trailheads, which lead into the remote but popular Little Yellowstone, Never Summer Mountains, Mummy Pass and Hague Creek areas of Rocky Mountain National Park.

It’ll be a short season for access to the area this year. The road can stay open each fall until Nov. 30, but snowfall determines when the road closes each season, Roosevelt National Forest spokeswoman Reghan Cloudman said.

From KOB-TV, Albuquerque:

With monsoons reducing fire danger and the Las Conchas fire 95% contained, the Forest Service will reopen parts of the Santa Fe Forest starting Saturday.

Areas surrounding the Las Conchas and Pacheco fires will remain closed, as will the Paliza campground in the Jemez district. Fishing programs in the Valles Caldera are still suspended until further notice.

But most of the Jemez Ranger district, the Valles Caldera National Reserve and parts of the Cuba Ranger district will reopen, with limited fire restrictions.

The restrictions in the reopened areas include allowing campfires only within camp and picnic areas developed by the Forest Service, where grills and grates are provided.

Smoking is only allowed in vehicles, in developed campgrounds or in areas cleared at least three feet in diameter of all flammable material.

Gas and propane stoves, lanterns or heating devices are allowed, providing they meet fire safety underwriter requirements.

Possessing, discharging or using any kind of firework or pyrotechnic device is illegal.

In other closures: Jemez Falls Campground will be closed this weekend, but will reopen on Monday (Aug. 1). The Holy Ghost Campground in the Pecos/Las Vegas district remains closed for repairs.
