Manitoba provincial park's rate structure questioned. A group of seasonal campers at Nopiming Provincial Park says a private campground operator is charging high fees and Manitoba Conservation has turned a blind eye to it, according to the Winnipeg Free Press. MICHIGAN From the Iron County Reporter: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that the Glidden Lake state forest campground, located approximately four miles southeast of Crystal Falls in Iron County, will be temporarily closed starting Sept. 6. The campground will be closed three to four weeks to allow DNR crews to remove over-mature and hazardous trees. Two Vermont Campgrounds Devastated by Irene

Tropical Storm Irene has had “a devastating effect” on the private campgrounds in Vermont and at least two have suffered “total flooding,” according to a report from Peter Daniels, executive director of the Vermont Campground Association (VCA). “Camping on the Battenkill in Arlington will not be able to access the damage until the river recedes. Connecticut Reopening Parks in Irene’s Wake

After safety inspections and cleanups in Irene’s wake, the state of Connecticut has started reopening its parks and campgrounds, but all state swimming areas remain closed as a precaution, said Dwayne Gardner, spokesman for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
